Safety Procedure Timeline
Step 1: Preparation
Identify all energy sources and isolation points. Notify affected personnel and obtain proper authorization.
Step 2: Shutdown
Turn off or disconnect equipment using normal operating controls. Ensure complete shutdown.
Step 3: Isolation
Physically disconnect or isolate equipment from energy sources (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic).
Step 4: Lockout/Tagout
Apply lockout/tagout devices to isolation points. Each worker uses their own lock and tag.
Step 5: Verification
Test controls and verify that equipment cannot be restarted. Check for stored energy.
Step 6: Work Complete
Remove lockout/tagout devices only after work is complete and area is safe. Restore energy.
